DOLPHIN

Dr. Andreas Döpp, LMU / MPQ

Our research group deals with Data-driven Optimization of Laser-plasma Physics & Interaction (DOLPHIN), a diverse research topic at the interface between computer science, modern optics and extreme light-matter interaction. On one hand, we work on the implementation and development of machine learning techniques (e.g. Bayesian optimization or deep compressed sensing) and on the other hand, we use these techniques in experiments with high power laser systems at the Centre for Advanced Laser Applications (CALA). There we take advantage of our regular access to the world-class ATLAS multi-PW laser, as well as several smaller laser systems for development tasks. One of our main goals is the development of more efficient diagnostics e.g. to measure the three-dimensional field distribution of laser pulses in a single shot.
